5 Facebook Marketing Mistakes
In business often times we begin with this
impeccable vision, it isn’t until we begin the process to achieving that vision
that we realize it’s much more complex than what we initially anticipated. Social Media in particular Facebook is no different.
We began by envisioning engaging everyone in our social network and this in
turn will create numerous amounts of revenue, it isn’t until you begin setting
up this page that you realize it’s much more complex than that. After several
hours of trying to set up a page, now extremely frustrated, you settle with
just throwing something together. Below
is a list of common Facebook marketing mistakes, if any of the following apply
to you, Second Chance Solutions can help you. We assist you in learning about
Facebook, creating a successful display, while abiding by the terms and
conditions to allow your business to use Facebook to its full capacity and
engage your audience.
1. Incomplete Profile Page
Not all people will go from your Facebook page to
your website. If they see your page is incomplete the likelihood of them taking
the time to go view your website has now decreased. You want to make sure you
are using Facebook to its full capacity, make sure you have your page complete
with hours, address, photo, offerings, web information so in the event they do not visit your
website they have captured all the same information.
2. Profile Page vs. Business Page
You want to make sure you’re separating your
personal page and your business page for several reasons. First your Facebook profile
pages does not have analytics which means you have no way of knowing what
strategies are working and which are not, but the business page offers
analytics for you to track this data. Next, sending an individual a friend
request is very different from sending an invite to like your page.
When you send an invite you are not asking the
person to see their personal information rather you are simply asking them to
like your business. Finally, you could violate Facebook Terms of Service by
marketing your business on your personal page. In the event this occurs
Facebook will simply delete the profile diminishing all of your efforts on that
page.
3. Long Posts
On Facebook, less is more. The goal with posting in
consumer engagement, a study by BuddyMedia found that status updates of less
than 80 characters received 27 percent higher reaction than longer updates.
People do not want “homework” they want to get the message by simply scrolling
through their news feed. This is also
true with the amount of times you are posting per week. The average Facebook user “likes” four to six new pages each
month so your content is constantly in competition for attention from its fans
which means it is better to post one or two quality posts per week rather than
a post everyday with little to no quality. Now this doesn’t mean not checking
or updating your page, you still want to respond to likes, comments, and
reviews on a daily basis.
4. Boring
In addition to the amount of content you are posting you want to look for quality.
Some businesses focus so much on marketing that they
forget that Facebook is a social networking place where people share and
interact with one another. It is important to post the kind of content that
your audience will find engaging, will be likely to share, like, or comment on.
Companies do not want to become predictable, start posting off brand
information, or become a company that is being hidden from their feed. It’s
important to mix up the content related to the product offering.
5. Violating Facebook Terms

It’s important to know how the mechanics of Facebook
works, however it’s also important to know the terms and conditions of the
website that you agreed to upon creating the page. Unfortunately many fail to read through terms
of use and often find themselves in violation. Some common violations include
building a community on a personal page instead of using the proper Facebook
page, while others fail to abide by the rules of running contests, or tagging
someone without their permission, or improper cover photos. In the event you
are in violation Facebook will delete the page.
